Copy Cats

Hello from the Copy Cats. Another three months has come and gone. Winter is upon us and we are looking toward March, April and May of 2018. We have enjoyed our time together at our dances, but also outside of them too. We Cats are busy. Some of our felines got together at Karen Olmsted’s home for a craft night. We girls were having so much fun that the boys had to check to see if we were ever going to be ready to go home. Our Holiday Dance was well attended—we had 72 members and guests attend our catered dinner. Seven Copy Kittens and one Cloverleaf Squares class member attended the festivities. We had a total of 10 squares on the dance floor! It was great to see so many of our Copy Cats members attend! Our Snowflake Ball was held on January 20, 2018 and it went great. The Class came early to hang a lot of snowflakes and the hall looked very nice! The Kittens provided snacks which were plentiful as always. Gary and Lorraine Granath did a wonderful job guiding the Class with hospitality. Ron Brown was our caller that evening. He invited Greg Marling to come to the dance. Greg and Ron did a couple of Hip Boot Boys numbers together about halfway through the night. We had seven squares on the floor all night until 9:45. Eileen Webster’s cueing was wonderful as always. Thank you, Eileen! Ron Brown won the second place 50/50 prize of $16 and donated it back to the Club. We were very appreciative of him for doing so. We have the following dances scheduled in 2018 to have more fun. On March 3 we will have one of our non-theme dances. On Saturday, March 17, we will celebrate St. Patrick’s Day beginning with a Potluck supper to enjoy together followed by dancing with music provided by Ron Brown. Our April Fool’s Day Dance will be held on April 7 and on April 21 is our “Save The Last Dance For Me” dance. Yes, this is the last dance scheduled until after the summer. But, you know us Cats, you never know what kind of mischief we will get into. Our dances are held at the First Baptist Church of Penfield (1862 Penfield Rd. Penfield, NY) and our instruction classes are held at Bay Trail Middle School (1760 Scriber Rd., Penfield NY). For upcoming dances, please check out our flyers in the Promenader or on our website (www.copycatsdancing.org). Hope to see you at our dances.

Grand Squares

Hopefully winter is, for the most part, done and we can look forward to longer and warmer days. Like many of you, surviving the cold and snow has been a challenge. Illness has plagued several of our regular members and since our membership is small to begin with, we are sincerely indebted to our faithful visitors to fill our squares. Everyone seemed to enjoy bidding farewell to the Christmas season with our CHRISTMAS IN JANUARY dance, so we will probably make that an annual happening.

As Mike continues with his travels, we are happy to have Jim Gotta calling and cuing for us on Thursday evenings. We will dance on March 1 and 8 with Jim and welcome Mike back for April 12 and 26. Our last dance of the season will be on May 3 when we will admit new graduates free. We dance at Roth Junior High on East Henrietta Road, just South of the Thruway overpass. Hope you can join us for a fun evening of dancing in the near future.

This workshop is designed for dancers who are comfortable with Phase II figures and would like to learn Phase III in several different rhythms. It is also an excellent review and reinforcement for dancers who are currently dancing Phase III. We will work on rumba, foxtrot, waltz, cha, jive, and tango figures, all of which will build on the Phase II figures you already know

We meet at the First United Methodist Church of West Webster, 570 Ridge Road, West Webster on Monday evenings from 8:00 to 10:00 p.m. Dress is casual and comfortable.

Please note: We will begin dancing after our winter break on Monday March 26, 2018.

Please note: We will "begin at the beginning" of Phase III figures. This will not be a carry-over from 2017, so dancers who would like to learn or have never done Phase III figures will be able to participate.

Well Hello Spring! We missed you. Fulton has had enough of the snow and freezing temperatures. We had to cancel dancing a few nights because the weather was just too bad to be driving. March starts out with our Quarterly Meeting. It doesn’t take long for us to get the club business done. Our party for the month is St. Patrick’s Day on March 16. Wear green and bring green snacks...no, not the container of green food in the back of the fridge. That night we will be dancing Class/Club alternating tips. On March 30 we will NOT be dancing because of Good Friday. April brings us two nights to note: on Friday the 13th we will have Black Cat Night. Members bring in donations for a local animal shelter. On the 20th is Pizza Night. We usually dance a few tips before the pizza arrives, but once it does... all dancing stops for a while. The club will provide the pizza and beverages. The first big highlight of May is the Dance-O-Rama on Saturday, May 5 in Fairport. Join the fun for lots of dancing, raffles and laughs with other club members. On May 18 is our club Cookout. Well, we can’t really call it a cookout anymore, since the meat arrives already cooked from the grill at home. The club provides hot dogs, brats and sausages. The generous club members bring yummy dishes to pass. We eat early, and then dance. On May 25, we will be dancing as normal even though it’s Memorial Day weekend. JUNE 2 is the Annual ALS Benefit Dance in Fulton. Please mark your calendars and attend this event. We have food, raffles and many callers and cuers. See the flyer here in the Promenader. That’s it from Fulton. We hope you come to visit us soon.
