Cayuga Cut-Ups

The Cut-Ups are dancing at Bailiwick’s Market & Cafe until our Open House in October. This fall we move back indoors to Weedsport United Methodist Church and to Sunday afternoon dancing. Our Open House on October 2, 9 & 16 will be advertised with yard signs, a newspaper article and lots of flyers around town! This year the Halloween Party will be October 30 and as always costumes are encouraged, spooky music played and lots of snacks; come dressed to party! The annual Harvest Dinner will be turkey and all the fixings on November 20; the club members cook the turkey and make all the delicious fixings, yum! We round out the year of 2022 with Our White Elephant Gifting party on December18; all are welcome to the gifting game just bring an item ‘shopped’ from your home to re-gift to another person! This is the best opportunity to laugh and clean out ‘good’ stuff no longer needed. Gifts need to be wrapped and in workable order for re-gifting, the funnier the better.

The Cut-Ups are thankful to be dancing and sharing friendship with our square dance community; keep the blessings coming.

Cloverleaf Squares

We had some fine summer dancing, culminating with our ever-popular Ice Cream social. Many of us also attended the two WNYF Saturday afternoon summer fun dances. It was good to see dancers from the edges of the Federation. There were not as many attendees as the Federation had hoped, but those who attended found it very enjoyable.

Many also got together as a group for some outside activities. We went to a mini-golf course in Henrietta and attended a Red Wings game. The Red Wings played an excellent game against the Norfolk Tides. It was their “2000’s Night.”

We are having another open house on Sunday, September 18 in Chili. We have been posting flyers around town and telling those we meet who may be interested in such an event. We hope to give birth to a whole new class. Our last class endured a long, drawn-out period broken by the pandemic isolation. We are certainly glad of their becoming members of the club. Everyone has been welcomed. We even saw them at other community dances (with our green cloverleaf badges).

This coming fall, our themes will be Fall Veggies Night on October 9, Halloween on October 30, Veterans Day/Honor Flight on November 6, and our Thanksgiving dinner on November 20.

We have been adjusting our dance schedule for the fall. We will be dancing at the First Baptist Church of Chili, at 3182 Chili Ave in Chili, beginning at 5:00 with class and then an hour of Plus dancing starting at 7:00. We will have one round dance between tips throughout the class session and into the Plus hour. The dancing will end at 8:00 pm. We encourage dancers to dance with the class, not just to be “angels.”

Southern Tier Wheelers

Wow—the summer has just flown by. We can’t believe that we have only a few weekends of camping/dancing left. If you have not joined us for a fun day, evening or weekend of dancing, there are only a few opportunities left. September 9 to 11 is a “regular” weekend with a Super Saturday offering. Super Saturday begins at 1:00 with a square dance fun-shop, a happy hour, a chicken parmesan dinner, early rounds and then an evening dance lasting until 9:00 followed by a time to visit around a campfire if you choose to. All of this for only $25 per person.

Our October Weekend is held over the Columbus Day weekend to provide us with one extra day of camping. It is also the campgrounds Halloween weekend with a children’s costume parade and other spook-tacular activities. Our dancing time does change a bit on Saturday since this is also a Halloween party for us and dancers are encouraged to come in costumes. If you plan on attending this event, please call to get updated times as our schedule changes based on what the campground is doing.

In any event, we thank you if you have joined us for some dancing this year and, if we have not the pleasure of having you join us, we hope you will soon.

Village Squares

In September, the Village Squares are pleased to resume Wednesday dancing, with Gil Porter calling, and with a new scheduling concept. For lack of a better term, we’re calling it “Cooperative Square Dancing.” In cooperation with the Grand Squares, our two clubs will “interleave” our schedules so that only one is dancing each week.

The benefit of this is that we won’t be competing for dancers on consecutive nights—Wednesdays for the Village Squares and Thursdays for the Grand Squares.

It’s a little more complicated, but we hope that dancers from each club who want to dance more often will attend the other club’s dances. That will be good for both clubs!

The resulting dance dates are not only posted in the online Schedule database but they are also tabulated in our joint flyer. The tabulation is easier to comprehend at a glance, but here they are written out for September through January:

Village Squares (Wednesdays) 9/7, 9/28, 10/19, 11/9, 12/7, 1/4, 1/25.

(Location: 123 South Main Street, Pittsford, NY)

Grand Squares (Thursdays) 9/15, 9/22, 10/13, 10/27, 11/3, 11/17, 12/1, 1/12.

(Location: Roth Junior High School, on East Henrietta Road, Henrietta, NY)

Several of these dances will have themes, so check the online Promenader Schedule and Flyer pages, and read the Grand Squares’ club news in this section. Themes that are already set are The Grand Squares’ Halloween dance on 10/27 and their “Christmas in January” dance on 1/12.

At Village Squares dances, the COVID protocol will be the same as we used in the spring: Fully vaccinated dancers with at least 1 boost; Masks required at all times; Contact info required on entry; Bottled water provided, and BYO snacks.
