Batavia Silver Stars

Now that April showers and May flowers are behind us, why not plan on spending a Monday evening with the Batavia Silver Stars. We have a new summer schedule. Please note: no early rounds (see flyer).

Are you interested in extending your square dancing skills? “They” say you need to keep learning and engaging your mind and body. Starting June 1 an A1 workshop will take place from 7:30 to 8:00. From 8:00 to 10:00 there will be 2X2s all summer long with air conditioning when needed. June 15 is our T-Shirt Dance. If you come that night, be sure to wear your prettiest, silliest or most outrageous T-shirt. No dancing July 27 as that is our club picnic. August 17 is our FREE NAME TAG DANCE (see flyer). If you have never been to one of our Name Tag Dances before, you’re in for a special treat—just make sure you wear your club name tag.

Hope to see you enjoying dancing with us this summer. Any questions, call any of the numbers listed below.

Boo Bull DBD

We began DBD dancing on Friday, May 8. The movements used in DBD are your plus movements that you already know. You get to look at these movements from different positions. As an example, we will look at the plus call “cross fire.” The definition is centers trade and ends cross fold and if you trade extend. It is usually taught with the girls in the middle and the boys on the end. There is not a girl’s part or a boy’s part as the call is written as a center part and end part. This is the slight modification in the way you think about your dancing. Please join us and give it a try. We have a lot of fun and laughter! The club dances 7:00–9:00.

Don’t forget the third annual Johnny Preston dance on August 18. He will call an A2 dance in the afternoon and a plus dance in the evening. He calls a great dance and everyone will agree that a good time was had by all who attended. Please save the date and plan to join us this year.

Cayuga Cut-Ups

We are saddened by the sudden passing of our club president, Bob Pearson, who died on April 16, 2015. He and his wife Jeannen were married for 56 years. Bob was a veteran and an engineer with IBM, retiring after 33 years. He stayed active with fishing, hunting, square dancing and spending time with his family. He was certainly an asset to our club and will be greatly missed.

At this time, we are planning a dance for August 13, 2015, featuring Johnny Preston calling and Mark Thone cueing. This dance will be held at the air-conditioned Apple Station Winery, 5279 Cross Road, Cayuga, NY. Early rounds will be 7:00 to 7:30 p.m. with square dancing from 7:30 to 10:00pm with Mainstream and Plus dances in a 2X2 format.

Copy Cats

We held graduation for our 21 Copy Kittens on April 21. This group worked diligently this year and had a lot of fun learning the calls from Ron Brown. We were honored to present them at the Dance-O-Rama as our new graduates of 2015! You are officially Copy Cats!

Thank you to all the angels who worked so hard to provide support this year. We also had angels from other clubs who showed up on Tuesday evenings during the snowy months this winter to help. Thank you! Thank you!

Copy Cats does not dance as a group during the summer but there are lots of opportunities to keep your feet moving on the dance floor. Check them out on the Promenader (http://www.squaredancingrochester.org).

News Alert! There is lots of interest in dancing Mainstream over the summer … so Saturday, August 1, we are having a Beach Party Dance at the air conditioned Henrietta Fire Hall. Our own Jim Gotta will be calling from 7:00–9:00 p.m. The fee is $4.00 per person. Come and enjoy old and new friends and put on your beach wear!

We are planning our open house this fall on Tuesday, September 22, at the Bay Trail Middle School in Penfield. Invite your friends for a great time.

Dalton Gang

Hello Dancing Friends!

With summer just around the corner, we are all busy! Luckily, there are still some dancing opportunities around! The Dalton Gang will be holding our Annual Round Up Dance on Friday (yes, Friday!) June 12, 2015 from 7:30–10 p.m. at the Keshequa Elementary School. Gary and Alice Bubel are once again going to be our Caller/Cuer for this event. As they were the club’s regular caller/cuer at one time, we always enjoy having them back for this wonderful evening. Some people like this annual dance because it is on a Friday, others enjoy it because this is the dance where we all sit down together after the dance and share a small meal and time together to socialize. Don’t worry about a dish to pass as this is our gift to you! We also have a 50/50 and Door Prize drawings for our guests. We hope you will mark this date on your calendar and take the drive to Dalton to join us.

Our dance schedule for the summer will be changing slightly due to dance hall availability. After our Round Up Dance, we will dance on June 23rd at Alice and Jerry Thompson’s home on Fuller Road. Please call Joe Pratt for more information. We will take the rest of the summer off and return to our new season of dancing in September.

We hope everyone has a safe and fun summer season. There will be some dancing here and there so we hope to see you on the dance floor during the summer season!

Our 2015–2016 regular schedule of dances will begin in September and we look forward to your support as we enter our new year. We are a small but very active club, with friendly dancers and a great caller. We welcome new members and guests.

Seneca Silhouettes

Seneca Silhouettes is a comfortable round dance club. We often take time to work out tricky parts. If you are in the neighborhood, we would love to have you join us Mondays from 2:00–5:00. We do the easier levels at 2:00, and finish with the higher levels. If you would like a proposed program, email me at connie.rhogo2@gmail.com before Saturday. We dance at the Trinity Church, 520 S Main St., Geneva, NY. Main Street is Route 14—easy to get to. From the thruway or the south, just stay on Route 14. From Routes 5 & 20, look for the Route 14 sign. After you circle to Route 14 (Main St.), turn left and you are almost there—the first church on your left. Park behind the church and use the door on the left. We are at the top of the stairs. You will find us dancing on a beautiful wood floor. The program can be easily altered if there is something different that you would like to do, and I have it.

We rarely cancel, but it is always a good idea to call, just in case something came up.

June brings our Graduation Night ceremony topped off with strawberry shortcake and whipped cream. Our new members have completed their Mainstream list of calls and are starting to learn the Plus list. In July we are looking forward to our Ice Cream Social on the 17th. This event brings out most members for an evening of “make your own” sundaes on a warm summer night. August 14 brings us to Hawaiian Shirt Night. Most of our treats that night will be made of pineapple or coconut. YUM! In between our themed dance nights are our regular Friday night dances filled with the friendship and laughter of the Shirts ’n Skirts members. If your club does not dance in the summer, join us, in our air conditioned hall. We will not be dancing on Friday, July 3.

Silver Squares

What changes will summer bring to Silver Squares? NONE! We will continue to dance every Monday afternoon with the exception of July 6th. It’s an excellent opportunity for new graduates and experienced dancers alike to get that extra practice and, to make it even better; your first visit to Silver Squares anytime between June 1 and August 31 is FREE. So, come join in the fun and know that your hinges will not be rusty come September. As always, we welcome both solo dancers and couples. All dances (except June 29) will be held at the Greece Methodist Church, 1924 Maiden Lane (just north of Long Pond Road), from 1:00–3:00.

We have three special dances planned. Surprisingly they all involve food.

June 29 is the date of our annual picnic dance and will be held at the Hidden Valley clubhouse located at 199 Hidden Valley Road. Anyone interested in attending this dance is asked to call President Jean St. John by June 22 for complete details and directions. July 13 is the date of our annual ice cream sundae extravaganza, and August 10 is the date of our root beer float dance. If you ever wanted to be a soda jerk, this is your chance.

Also, with the 57th Dance-O-Rama behind us, we’d like to thank the volunteers of the Rochester Federation for another wonderful year of dancing. We appreciate all that you do.

Village Squares

At this time last year our club was experiencing Angsts 1 and 2, both of which have since been resolved favorably.

Angst 1, our need to find a new dance venue for the 2014–2015 dance year, was resolved favorably. With a dance season now nearing completion, we are quite pleased with our new home at the United Church of Pittsford (UCP), 123 S. Main St. Visitors are always welcome, with or without a checklist to score amenities.

Angst 2 spread across the entire federation. Our very capable and hard-working General Editors of the Promenader, Betty & Andy Ludwick, were justifiably retiring, even though they were irreplaceable. Belatedly, progress toward a solution began with the agreement to bury snail mail. With the help of many with digital literacy, including Betty and Andy, the electronic reincarnation of the Promenader that you are now reading emerged. We, as a club, are quite proud that our president, Peter Emmel, took the lead in making this happen and is now the Online Editor, even though he insists the title is only temporary.

Moving ahead, our last dance of the season, June 3, is an Ice Cream Social, featuring ice cream, toppings, and birthday cake. Dancing begins at 7:30, with Jerry Carmen calling and cueing 2x2 rounds and squares. Our flyer is in this issue. Questions? Contact Susan Thomas 585-385-2155.

On Wednesday, July 15, we are holding our summer picnic (games, food and dancing) at King’s Bend Park, which is on the north side of Jefferson Road just east of Clover (Route 65). For better dancing, we are again using the back lodge. Rain or shine, games start at 3:00 p.m., dinner at 5:30 p.m., dancing after dinner. Bring lawn chairs, games, beverages, and a dish to pass. Hot dogs, burgers, rolls, condiments, plates, cups and utensils are furnished. For reservations, call Tom Powers at 585-770-4700 or email tfpowers55@gmail.com before July 9. The price is $7.00 per person.

Our Trail Back dance—the first dance of the 2015–2016 dance year - is on the first Wednesday after Labor Day—that is, it is on September 9.

We are once again offering a Plus Class/Review, starting September 16. Jerry Carmen will be teaching/calling/cueing. Class is from 7:00–8:00 p.m. From 8:00–9:00 p.m., Plus calling is at a level that allows the class to participate. From 9:00 to 10:00 p.m., dancing is at a full Plus level. Breaks include rounds. Note the ad in this issue. One admission covers an entire evening of dancing. 2015 Mainstream class graduates are admitted free on September 16, 23 and 30.
