Come join the Batavia Silver Stars for our Christmas Potluck Dinner
Dance, Monday, December 19 at 6:00 p.m. All you need to do is bring a
dish to pass and your place setting. Beverages will be
provided. Guests attending this potluck, please RSVP to either Jan or
Carol by December 18. Please note: December 12 we will be collecting
donations for the Backpack Program. They prefer individual packages of
fruit, cereal, soup, and hot chocolate, anything that a child can
prepare and eat by himself.
Yummy, Yummy, warm in the tummy! January 23 will be our Homemade Soup
Night. It is just what we need on a cold winter’s night. The
collection that night will be for the Corfu Area Food Pantry. Please
bring canned goods.
February 13 we will celebrate Valentine’s Day, so bring your
sweetheart, even if they are not a square dancer. On this special
night we will collect items for Eagle Star Housing, a home for
veterans trying to get back on their feet.
Hope to see you here at Batavia Silver Stars for FUN, FOOD, and of
course great dancing. If doubtful about weather conditions or
cancellations, please call Jan or Bill at numbers listed below.

Belles 'N' Beaus
It’s the Holiday Season with music in the air and we invite you
to come and join us for our Christmas Dance on December 19 with Mike
Callahan calling some Christmas tunes. This is a festive night and we
like to decorate and we will be having some special holiday treats as
we dance.
The New Year has arrived but we will not be dancing on January 2 so
our first dance of 2017 will be on January 9. We will be having a Sock
Hop and yes, we are still looking for Elvis, seems like he does always
show up, so come on over and join us in the fun. On January 30 we will
hold our Winter Picnic and begin at 6:00; hot dogs will be cooked
outdoors (yes, neither snow, nor sleet, nor wind keeps us from cooking
outdoors). The hot dog dinner is free but the dancing is not. We would
love to have you come. Just give Bob Hager a call at 227-1894 and let
us know that you are coming so we know how many hot dogs to cook.
A lot of our members head south in February so we are taking most of
February off and will dance again on February 27.
On March 6 Ron Brown will be calling, so come and join us and dance the
night away. March 13 will be our Shamrock Night, so you guessed it,
wear your best green duds and we’ll do our best to come up with
some green snacks for you to enjoy.

or call us to find out if we are dancing, as we do not dance every

Our MS benefit dance was a great success again this year. We have
continued to have a nice group dancing this fall and we thank all the
new dancers who joined the club this year and, of course, our steady
club members. It has been fun and we look forward to seeing everyone
return in May! Our last dance of the season was November 1. As many of
you know, we are going to Florida early to see our new granddaughter.
We will be calling and cueing at DOR May 6, 2017. Our club will begin
dancing again May 9, 2017.
We wish everyone a wonderful holiday season.

plan to celebrate all year. Join us in December every Thursday
night. This month on December 15 guest caller Dave Eno will be here
and on December 22 we will celebrate the holiday with a Secret Santa

season with families.
In January we have regular class/club dances on Thursday nights.
February 9 is our Valentine’s Day Dance and on February 23 guest
caller Gil Porter will be calling squares! Our caller Ron will be on
vacation I’m sure enjoying the sunshine somewhere warm!

Directions: To get to the Mistletoe Ball on December 10, 2016, and the
subsequent dances, follow I-390 south. Stay straight onto I-86
east. Take Exit 38, and turn left at ramp end. Stay on Washington to
the third traffic light. Turn right, then immediate left into driveway
next to police station.
Remember, January and February dances are in the afternoon, 2:00 to
4:30. If you arrive at 11:30, I’ll be sleeping.
All of our dances offer a variety of good snacks. We try to be
somewhat seasonal. No mistletoe berries will be served!!!
If you are hungry after the dance, use Smokey’s at Exit 37,
which you passed on the way to Bath. Take a left at ramp end. It is
opposite the Pilot truck stop. The restaurant has a good menu.
If the snacks start petering out, and you have tummy rumblings,
Dansville has the TA truck stop with a buffet and menu. There is
nothing like a warm comfy place to get out of the cold and enjoy a
leisure meal, while also relaxing the eyeballs.
Please take your time and be courteous to others, even if they are not
courteous to you. We want to see you again. Be a pro.
For bus loads, rail car service, or any other matter however trite it
may seem, please phone Diane ahead at: 607-776-4528.
My shirt reads: Square dancers are angels in disguise. Which I think
means; wear a nice disguise.
Would like to see you around the square, or whatever shape it takes,

Fall is here in the Finger Lakes along with all of its majestic
colors. We are willing to wait for the white covering on the ground
though!
Our class is almost through their first twelve weeks of lessons and we
have some enthusiastic learners. Starting in mid-January, we hope to
start our second session of twelve weeks of beginner
classes. We’re pulling out all the stops to find new
dancers. Next year at this time, our dancers will have been exposed to
several different callers to help them transition to more than one
caller. Each caller has their own style and it is good for any dancer
to visit other clubs, even those out of our immediate area. Our club
tries to hire an out-of-state caller every couple of years and
recently we had the Sprosty twin brother callers from Iowa who were
also here four years ago. They even dressed up in the Octoberfest
theme (see the pictures on the Federation website.)
The Honor Flight dance was a huge success once again thanks to all the
generous dancers showing their support for the veterans. The total
collected was $778 and will help send a worthy veteran on a trip to
Washington, D.C.
With Halloween and all the multitude of costumes, and Thanksgiving
just past, we look forward to the Christmas and Jewish holiday
seasons. Cloverleafs will have their annual Christmas catered dinner
on December 11. This is always a good time to visit with your dancing
friends and relax during this time of hustle and bustle. December 18
please wear an ugly or nice sweater that night.
An upcoming dance event in January is the Sports Night on January 8.
Dress in your favorite team’s shirt. We can see which team is
the most popular. The second Open House to recruit new dancers is
January 22 so put your thinking cap on and invite someone. Ron Brown
will be the instructor while Mike is out in sunny Arizona. February 5
is for class only so the Super Bowl fans can cheer on their team.
Valentine’s Day will be celebrated February 12 and you may find
yourself having a picture taken with your favorite friend. Who
doesn’t like Mardi Gras? See you on Feb. 26 for this festive
dance. One of our favorite dances is our Anniversary/St.
Patrick’s Day Dance with the “Wearing of the
Green.” That date is March 19.
We will see you on the dance floor in the fall and holiday colors. If
you know of anyone interested in taking square dance lessons, remind
them that they can start right away in January.

Copy Cats
After welcoming back our Copy Cats members in September, we have been
very busy. Our Tuesday night class dance has been very rewarding for
us. Not only has the year started out great, but we celebrated our
45th Anniversary with a Plus/Mainstream dance on October 1 at the
First Baptist Church in Penfield NY. Our volunteers really know how to
decorate. Our hall looked GRAND! Our Halloween dance has passed; but
leave it up to our Copy Cats, they extended the Halloween fun by
wearing the T-shirts for Halloween to our Tuesday night class dance
this week. We had some special guests that showed up. We had a visit
from two clowns that gave us some laughs (Karen Olmsted and Don
Jarmyn). It was great of Mary Poppins and our favorite Chimney Sweep
Bert to come and dance with us (Rick and Donna LaDonna). I can’t
leave out our Monster Mash guy and his cutie wearing those 70’s
bell bottom pants (Rick & Nancy Simmons). Ron Brown finished off
the night with a great Halloween song and dance.
By the time you read this, we will have honored our vets on November
5, 2016. All our veterans are special to us. I know of one of our
vets who received the Purple Heart for his service in the Vietnam
conflict—our member Steve Barkeley.
We are now looking forward to our dances in November, December 2016
and January 2017. We want to invite all of you to join us.
Our Christmas Dinner Dance is December 17, 2016. This dance is free
to class members of any club. Our dinner will be catered. The menu
sure looks yummy and it is only $12.00 per person. (Watch for our
flyer for the menu.) RSVP to Mary Jo Webster by December 7, 2016 by
either calling 585-869-6275 or Email dweb500@aol.com. If you wish to
come for the dance only, the cost is $5.00 each.
Our Class/Club Snowflake Ball is on January 21. You can’t beat this dance. You
have to come and see all the snowflakes that our members have made
hanging from the ceiling. It is a magical night with snowflakes inside
(and hopefully not too many outside).
All of the above dances are held at the First Baptist Church of
Penfield, which is located at 1862 Penfield Rd, Penfield NY. Watch for
our flyers for times that each dance starts.
See You There!!!

Dalton Gang
Hello fellow square dancers. I hope you are having a great season so
far. Our club had a great event on September 30. We did our East Meets
West dance, but unfortunately we did not do well financially. We did
not even make a profit, losing around 70 dollars for our club, so the
club has decided to plan on this East meets West dance sometime in the
spring. The admission will be $6.00. The dates are yet to be
determined. We are hoping we make money on this next one, so we
encourage people to come out and join us.
Tuesday the 6th of December, is our annual club Christmas party at
6:00. Since we will be partying and socializing, we will not have any
dances. If you are interested in joining the comradery, please bring a
dish to pass and table service as well as a gift to pass, marking it
his or hers. We will be playing exchange the gift game; it’s a
card game that would involve exchanging gifts to pass among
players. In the end, everyone will get a gift.
Last but not least, our ever popular pancake dinner dance is on March
28. Our Dinner will be held at the Maple Tree Inn in Angelica and the
dance will take place at the Elementary Dalton School Cafetorium; a
place where you can work off those calories from the pancakes. For
more information on this event, call me at 585-330-1128.
This year we have gotten a few more new dancers, and hoping we get
more people to our club. We want to keep this club growing.

Grand Squares
The winter months will continue to be active for the Grand Squares
which meet two Thursdays each month from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m., at the
Roth Middle school on East Henrietta Road. We will dance on December 1
and 15 (our Christmas party). January dates are the 12th and the
19th. Mike Callahan will be our caller those two months. We dance
mostly Plus calls and Terry usually does a line dance. During February
with Mike on a well-deserved winter vacation, we will have guest
callers—Jim Gotta on February 2 and Gil Porter on
February 16.
We wish all dancers a happy, healthy holiday season, and a great new
year. Join us, and beat the winter blahs for an evening with friendly
people and great dancing.

Seneca Silhouettes
Seneca Silhouettes is a comfortable round dance club. We often take
time to work out tricky parts. If you are in the neighborhood, we
would love to have you join us Mondays from 2:00–5:00. If you
would like a proposed program, email me at connie.rhogo2@gmail.com
before Saturday. We dance at the Trinity Church, 520 S Main, St.,
Geneva, NY. Main Street is Route 14—easy to get to. From
the thruway or the south, just stay on Rout e14. From Routes 5 &
20, look for the Route 14 sign. After you circle to Route 14, (Main
St.), turn left and you are almost there—the first church
on your left. Park behind the church and use the door on the left.
We are at the top of the stairs. You will find us dancing on a
beautiful wood floor. The program can easily be altered if there is
something different you would like to do, and I have it. We rarely
cancel, but it is always a good idea to call, just in case something
has come up. We will probably be dancing Martin Luther King Day, 1/16,
and President’s Day, 2/20.

Fall has come to Central New York; the leaves are sparkling their
colors and the temperatures are feeling crisper.
In these last months, our class sessions got underway. We’re
happy to have a number of new dancers coming for the weekly
lessons. We love the way our circle of friends expands each fall with
the new class members.
Toward the end of October, several of our club members traveled north
to Ontario to help the Napanee Pioneers celebrate their dance
club’s 50th anniversary. Those who went were glad to dance with
the Pioneers on their own turf—they’ve come down
several times to dance with us at our regular Friday night dances.
Upcoming special dances include the following:
Coming up on December 16 is our Christmas Dance. Come and join us from
7:00 to 9:30; alternating tips and yummy treats!
In January we’ll celebrate New Year’s on January 6 with a
dance and chili night; alternating tips from 7:00–9:30 at that
dance, too.
And then February’s special dance is a Valentine’s
celebration on February 10. Wear red to mark the day . Come twirl with
us in celebration. It’s pie night too, so come to enjoy the
variety of pies we serve as well!

Our 2016 camping season has drawn to a close. However, we still have
our Christmas Dinner Dance to look forward to. It will be taking place
at the Tyrone Fire Hall on December 11. Jeff Bobst will be calling and
Lisa Treichler will be our cuer. Dancing will begin at 3:00 followed
by a home-cooked meal provided by Dottie Griffiths. Dinner, dancing,
fun and fellowship are only $22.50 a person.
A big “THANK YOU” to all of you who came to visit and
dance with us throughout the season. We may be digging in for the
winter but already have great plans for our 2017 season. In May, we
will be dancing to Roy and Betsy Gotta. We are making plans to offer
an afternoon dance in June and inviting new dance graduates to
experience how much fun you can have when you combine dancing with
camping. Please watch for additional information as we get closer to
our 2017 camping season.

Our Winter Quarter of dances contains surprises and
adjustments. Unfortunately, everything you may need to know or do
cannot be shoved into the first paragraph. So scan at your peril.
We are happy to announce that Gil Porter has joined Jerry Carmen as
our club caller. Our current planning is to have both callers
participating in each of our dances, circumstances permitting.
On another Caller-related topic, our club president, Peter Emmel,
585-381-5049 (pemmel@frontiernet.net), is looking for amateurs to call
a tip, cue a round or lead a line dance at our Wednesday, May 24,
Amateur Caller Talent Night. Refer to our flyer for more
detail. Amateurs tend to sit on the fence. Opt in early and avoid
handicapping yourself by hesitating.
If you are reading this on or before December 5, you still have time
to make a dinner reservation for our Holiday Dinner Dance on Wednesday
December 14. The social hour begins at 6:00 p.m., followed by a
catered dinner at 6:30 p.m., followed by dancing starting at 7:30
p.m. Tableware is provided. The price is $17 for the dance and
dinner. For a dinner reservation, please contact Susan Thomas
585-385-2155 (suetinny2@yahoo.com). If you elect to come to the dance
after the dinner, the usual dance admission per person is in
effect. Refer to our flyer in this issue.
To avoid having our active club dancers worn to a frazzle, no dances
have been scheduled for December 21 and 28. Village Squares has also
cancelled its New Year’s Eve dance for this year, and we are
not dancing on Ash Wednesday, March 1.
That leaves as our regular Wednesday dances during the Winter Quarter
December 7 and every Wednesday in January and February. These dances
begin with an hour workshop on Plus calls from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m.,
dancing from 8:00 to 9:00 p.m. that reviews Plus calls previously
taught and full Plus dancing from 9:00 to 10:00 p.m.
Our Wednesday, February 15, dance is dedicated to rescuing dancing
partners who forgot St. Valentine’s day. Refer to our flyer in
this issue.
Our Wednesday dance offerings for the Winter Quarter are complemented
by two Fabulous Fourth Friday dances. Both dances feature Mainstream,
Plus, and Round dances. Both dances are from 7:30 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.
The Friday, January 27 dance is by now a perennial. It is our
Anti-FREEze dance. You may have picked up from the title that the
dance is FREE to all comers. Dress casually, with an emphasis on
warmth. If snowed out, the make-up date is Wednesday February 1.
Our Friday, February 24, dance is Village Squares Go to the
Movies. Dress up as your favorite present or past movie star. Or
simply dress up for the Oscars. Refer to our flyer in this issue.
The grand total is twelve Village Squares dances for the Winter
Quarter. Avoid tough choices, choose them all.

Waterwheel Squares
December is a busy month celebrating family and holiday traditions. At
Waterwheels we continue to dance Tuesdays at 7:00 p.m. at Amherst
Community Church, 77 Washington Highway, Amherst, N.Y. 14226.
There is a regular weekly dance on December 6 and our Christmas Dance
on December 20. This leaves our members and families plenty of time to
connect with each other, getting baking and holiday preparations
underway.
January is the coldest, most icy month of the year, but we keep warm
dancing on the 3rd, 17th, and 31st. On the 24th we have our annual
Hobo dance. We make a big pot of soup to share and every member brings
a can of soup to donate to the church pantry here.
February is all simply regular dance nights, a chance to share our
skills and refine what we’ve learned. So the happiest of
holidays and a prosperous New Year to all of you from all of us at
Waterwheels!
