Summer is here and we will miss dancing until September. We had a fun year with many theme nights to include an ice cream social, Fiesta Night, and Hawaiian night. We also had our winter picnic with grilled hot dogs that is always a hit. This year various callers helped us learn all kinds of new steps.

We are looking forward to seeing everyone in September at Messiah Lutheran Church.

Cloverleaf Squares

Cloverleaf Squares has a lot of fun things planned for the summer and we hope you will join us for all the good times.

In late April, our new class graduated after learning the Mainstream calls. In May we moved to the fire hall on East Henrietta road and began our summer schedule. We have a round dance class learning rumba and cha-cha from 5:00 to 6:30 p.m. each Sunday. Mark and Marlene Thone taught the first two classes on May 6 and 20. Starting June 2 and continuing until August 26, Alice and Gary Bubel will continue to teach these classes.

Every Sunday, from 7:00 to 8:00 pm Mike Callahan will be teaching Plus calls as well as reviewing Mainstream calls. Everyone one is welcome to attend. From 8:00 to 9:00 the club will dance at the level that has been taught and there will be rounds between tips. From 9:00 to 10:00 the club will dance full Plus level with rounds. All experienced dancers are welcome to join us.

On June 10, we will have a Red, White, and Blue theme in honor of Flag Day (June 14).

There will be NO DANCE on July 1 in honor of Independence Day. Saturday, July 14 will be our July Fest with Caller Ron Reardon from Florida and our own Alice Bubel cueing rounds. Dancing is from 7:00 to 10:00 p.m. at the fire hall on East Henrietta Road. Sunday, July 15 is Boots and Shorts night and Sunday, July 29 is Crazy T-shirt night. Start planning now for the best outfits to wear to these fun dances!

Saturday, August 4 is our annual picnic and bonfire at the home of Jane Avery. It is sponsored by Cloverleaf Squares, but everyone is welcome. Picnic begins at 1:00 p.m. Bring a dish to pass, lawn chair, and any games you would like to share. The pool will be open so bring your bathing suit/towel if you would like to swim. Friday, August 24, Mike Sikorsky, a national caller from Arizona, will be calling at the Henrietta fire hall with Alice Bubel cueing rounds. Early rounds begin at 7:00 pm with 2X2 squares and rounds from 7:30 to 10:00. We will end our summer schedule with an ice cream social on Sunday, August 26.

There will be no dance on Sunday, September 2 (Labor Day weekend). We look forward to our Open Houses on September 9 and 16 and hope to bring lots of new folks into class to join us in our favorite sport—square dancing!!! We will resume our regular winter schedule at the First Baptist Church of Chili on Sunday, September 23.

Please check our website at www.cloverleafsquares.org for flyers and details of all these upcoming fun events.

Copy Cats

Well another winter has come to a cold close. Spring offers some sunshine and somewhat warmer weather. The Copy Cats Snow Birds are migrating back and looking forward to May, June and July. Some of us may have been gone for the winter, but our Co-Presidents Rick and Donna LaDonna (in Alabama) along with our Copy Cats Board (in Rochester) have kept the Club going without a hitch. Our dances have been well attended and we welcomed guests from many Federation clubs throughout the spring.

Our April 21 dance was an overwhelming success. There were 10 squares dancing! Thanks to Eileen Webster and Mike Callahan for providing a great dance. Mike was a master at putting us in unique positions to execute calls we were supposed to know.

Usually, our dance season ends in late April. However, due to the cancellation of our January 6 dance, the Copy Cats will be hosting a Summer Pajama Party on Friday, August 17 from 6:30 to 9:00 p.m. at VFW Post 8495 in Fairport. Mike Callahan will call this graduate-friendly dance. Get your pajamas, sleep pants, robes and slippers ready for this fun evening of dancing.

The Copy Cats are proud to announce the graduation of 10 Copy “Kittens”. They are: Laurie & Dave Collins, Evan Desmitt, Domenica Gustke, Donna & Jorgen Kongerslev, Donna Kramer, Jolanta & Tom Mokrzan and Deborah Vincent. We congratulate them on their dancing accomplishments over the past year and look forward to having them join our Club.

Mike Callahan will call/cue our Rusty Hinge Dance on Saturday, September 8, kicking off our 2018–2019 season. Our dances are held at the First Baptist Church of Penfield (1862 Penfield Rd. Penfield, NY). We are hosting an Open House on Tuesday, September 19 followed by our first class on Tuesday, September 25. Our instructions are held at the Bay Trail Middle School (1760 Scriber Rd., Penfield NY). For upcoming dances, please check out our flyers in the Promenader or on our website (www.copycatsdancing.org). Please join us for great dancing and friendship.

Grand Squares

Can you believe it is the end of another dancing season? Just as at the end of each calendar year we look back at our successes and forward to the unknown adventures lying ahead, so we, as presidents of Grand Squares, do likewise. Mike, Jim and Terry have provided us with many evenings of fun dancing and numerous guests have helped to fill our squares. We are grateful for each one’s contribution during the year. We are grateful to the school custodians who transform the cafeteria into our dancing space, to Ray, our treasurer, who is there every dance to collect the money and keep our club solvent, and Donna who brought snacks almost every other dance.

We are now looking forward to starting another dancing season in September. Until then, we hope our club members and guests will have a great summer and will take advantage of some of the dances being offered by other clubs during our time off.

See you in September.

Village Squares

This issue covers the time from the last dance (June 6) of our 2017–2018 dance year to the first activities of our 2018–2019 dance year.

The goodbye to our 2017–2018 dance year occurs at our Trail’s End dance on Wednesday, June 6, which features an Ice Cream Social. The dance begins at 7:00 p.m. and includes 2X2 Plus Squares and Rounds. Gil Porter will be calling and a pre-recorded Jerry Carmen will be cueing. There will be no Plus Workshop this night. The location is at the United Church of Pittsford, 123 South Main St., just south of the village. Refer to our flyer in this issue. With that our 2017–2018 dance season ends, and the club goes into its summer semi-hibernation. Some club members truly hibernate while others visit other clubs that dance and/or teach while Village Squares is hibernating.

We leap into the 2018–2019 dance year with our summer picnic on Wednesday July 25 at Kings Bend Park. To reach the park turn north off of Jefferson Road just east of Clover (Rte. 65). We have reserved the north pavilion. Games and socializing start at 3:00 p.m. Bring a dish to pass, beverages, and lawn chairs. The club will provide burgers and hots, rolls and condiments, plates, cups and utensils. Starting at 7:30 p.m., Gil Porter will be calling and a pre-recorded Jerry Carmen will be cueing. $10.00 per person will be collected at the pavilion. Village Squares has no dances in the month of August.

Our 2017–2018 dance year starts in earnest Wednesday, September 5, at the Pittsford United Church with a potluck dinner and dance. The social hour begins at 6:00 p.m., followed by a sit-down meal at 6:30 p.m., followed by dancing starting at 7:30 p.m. Bring tableware and a dish to pass. For the potluck, please contact hostesses Susan Thomas 585-385-2155 (suetinny2@yahoo.com) or Barb Keane 585-787-4061. Dance admission also covers the potluck. The second Wednesday after Labor Day, September 12, our Plus Teach and Review Workshops begin. These Wednesday workshops are from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. The club segues to a full Plus level from about 8:30 p.m. and continues at that level until 10:00 p.m. Mainstream dancers who graduated in May and are interested in learning Plus calls are particularly invited to join the 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 workshop in September.
