Spring has long ago sprung, Summer is waning, now it’s time to think Fall, cooler weather and square dancing with Batavia Silver Stars. OPEN HOUSE will be September 30 to start off our fall season. Consider bringing a friend who has always said “square dancing sounds like fun” for a free night of dancing from 7:00–8:15. Invite them to join in the fun, exercise and, of course, homemade refreshments. Class Session will be from October 7 through December 23, 7:00–8:15; plus dancing from 8:15–9:30 with 2 x 2 rounds.

October 28 will be filled with wacky costumes, ghosts and goblins for our Fall/Halloween Dance. Although costumes are not mandatory, they certainly make the evening more interesting. Donations of games, movies, books, toiletries, non-perishable food items, new socks, winter hats and gloves will be donated to Eagle Star Housing.

November 11 is always a special evening when we honor our veterans. VETERANS DANCE FREE. Wearing your military uniform always adds prestige to the evening. Everyone else would complement the evening by wearing red, white and blue. Eileen Webster will be our guest cuer this evening. Donations of money for Thanksgiving turkeys or non-perishable food will be donated to the Salvation Army this evening.

Save December 16 for our annual Christmas Pot Luck Dinner Dance starting at 6:00.

We have had a great summer season! We have been teaching plus calls and reviewing anything our dancers wanted to see. One night we danced outside due to voting. It was a perfect night and everyone enjoyed it. We were saddened that our big dance with Johnny Preston was cancelled due to Johnny’s health problems. Please say a prayer for him. Pie night was a success as usual. Who doesn’t like pie!!! Remember that our club dances through the first week of December so please consider joining us some night. We always enjoy meeting new dancers and having them dance with us.

Don’t forget the MS dance scheduled for October 4, 7:00–9:00.

Champagne Whirl-A-Ways

We are looking forward to continuing with an energetic season; less carbs and more fruits. Food additives are insidious detriments. They DO NOT have to be included with the ingredients label. Food additives may interfere with sexual orientation. Please accept people for what they are. We have had an unfortunate occurrence, thus losing 3 new dancers.

From the Finger Lakes throughout the northern Pennsylvania region, Diane and I travel many miles to dance with a variety of callers and cuers. I always look for the fun dancers. Sometimes I get caught concentrating. Gee whiz, give a guy a break. Add to that dancing Saturday night, Sunday afternoon, and again Sunday night with un-cued ballroom, is a little on the draining side. But, that is a rarity.

Besides grapes and pumpkin pudding in the Fall, our food displays will bare unpredictable nibbles. To head off any questions; yes, the display can be eaten! @#$%^&*(@##

Always call ahead. Our church does its best to accommodate us. They are wonderful people.

Hugs and cheers: Art

Our ice cream social last month was a great success. Ice cream is the third favorite thing with square dancers. (Dancing and Friendship are first and second). Read’s Ice Cream brought over their fresh and smooth tasting delights from across the street.

Our Plus classes went well this past summer with members of other clubs attending. Everyone will be ready to dance at the Plus level and be especially helpful at the new beginner classes as angels.

We will move to our Fall and Winter digs beginning on September 8th to the First Baptist Church of Chili, 3182 Chili Avenue. Our Basic and Mainstream classes will begin on September 28th. We have our welcome mat out on Sundays for all area dancers.

We worked hard promoting our Open House to be held in Chili on September 15th and 22nd. We posted passed out flyers; Staffed an information booth at a Gates community fair; and advertised in the local rags. This will be our best open house yet.

Be on the lookout for our Anniversary Trail-In dances with different, exciting callers every night. Our talent will be Ron Brown, Dave Eno, Keith Harter, Gil Porter, Richard Rosenfield, Bill Ryan, Ron Schweitzer, and Ray Tompkins. Check out our schedule and dance to your favorite (you don’t have to have just one favorite)

Also, lookout for our coming theme dances. We have “Pie Night” and “Halloween” in October. In November we are having our “Veterans Day / Honor Flight” dance along with our Thanksgiving potluck dinner.

We are planning a reunion during our 50th anniversary dance in 2020. It will be held at the Diplomat Event Center on Lyell Avenue in Rochester. We are inviting all our alumni to send us a note to let us know your contact information so we can give you more particulars as the date approaches. If you know the contact information of any other former member please pass it along. Ray and Nancy Tompkins are coordinating this event. Email them at tpets@roadrunner.com. Look for flyers and posters and keep your calendar free.

Copy Cats

Over the summer the Copy Cats take a break from regular dancing, but that doesn’t stop the fun—or the dancing. To see what I mean, take a look at our “Off-Season Fun” article in the Photos & Features section of this Promenader issue.

Our regular dances resume in September and usually occur on the first and third Saturday evenings of every month, at the First Baptist Church on Penfield Road unless otherwise noted. Check the schedule pages and click the flyer links for details.

We’ll start out the year on September 7 with a potluck dinner at 5:30, followed by the Rusty Hinge Dance at 7:00, with Mike Callahan calling.

On Tuesday, September 17, we welcome new recruits at our Open House—from 7:00–9:00 at Bay Trail School, 1760 Scribner Road, Penfield, NY. Classes for mainstream calls and plus calls will begin on Tuesday, September 24. Ron Brown will be our instructor for both levels of classes. Please encourage your non-dancing friends to attend the Open House and see how much fun Modern Western square dancing can be.

Copy Cats enjoy theme dances and often dress for the occasion. Sometimes the snacks also reflect the theme of the dance, so be sure to come and see how creative our club members can be. Here’s a sampling of the themes for the coming season: October: “Sail into Dancing” and “Spooktacular Dance” (with the Hip Boot Boys), November: “Veterans’ Dance” and “Giving Thanks for Dancing,” December: “Winter Wonderland” and “Holiday Dance” with a catered dinner, and we’ll ring in the new decade on January 4, at our New Year’s Dance. For details on all of these and more, see the schedule pages and click the flyer links.

Hello fellow square dancers. We hope that you have had a wonderful summer. Our brand new square dancing season is coming up, starting on Tuesday September 10. Our open houses are on September 17 and 24. We always welcome new members. This year our Tuesday night square dancing times will be changed. At our meeting a few months back, we decided to give new members a chance to work on mainstream only by having mainstream dancing from 6:30–7:30. Then from 7:30–9:00 we would dance Plus calls.

Next year, on March the 24, don’t forget our wonderful Maple Tree Inn dance!

I hope to see you at one of our dances.

Time certainly has a way of flying by. We only have two campouts remaining in our camping season. Our September weekend—September 6 to 8—is our last Super Saturday special. For only $20.00 a person you would be able to dance Saturday afternoon and evening, enjoy our “happy hour” and have a yummy spaghetti dinner. We have adjusted the evening schedule so that dancing is done in time so that you might enjoy some time at the campfire and still be home before the midnight hour. The dancing level is geared to new dancers. This can serve as a great warm-up to your club’s dancing for any recent graduates. Please encourage newer club members to attend. Additional information can be found on the flyer located elsewhere in the Promenader.

If you are up for a little bit of early Halloween fun, please consider joining us for our Saturday evening dance on October 12. Early rounds begin at 7:15 with costume judging at 7:45 and regular 2 x 2 dancing until 10:00. Wearing of costumes is encouraged but not required. We offer prizes for a variety of categories and lots of fun is had by all. This is our last “hurrah” for the year but we will be back in May of 2020 for another fun season of camping and dancing.
