The Batavia Silver Stars are saddened with the passing of our
long-time caller, Bill Ryan, September 28, 2020, from health
complications. Bill and Nancy Fincher started the Batavia Silver
Stars in the mid 1980s and we have been an active square dancing club
since that time. Although Bill took a hiatus for a while, he has been
our caller for many years. He and Nancy started the Leprechaun Twirl,
a special St. Patrick’s Dance, at a local Batavia church. One
such dance an uninvited guest appeared—a bat few around
in the church hall making quite a stir! Bill always provided us with
a special blessing before partaking of our annual Christmas Dinner
Dance. We all will miss our Monday nights with Bill. Rest in Peace,
dear Bill. With the current COVID virus raging, our club is not
currently dancing.

Hi Everyone. We are combining the news of our three clubs into one. As
with most clubs, we are not dancing. The halls we use are still not
open to us. We are hopeful that we will be able to resume our dancing
in May with our usual programs.
We miss all of our square and round dance friends and hope everyone is
staying safe. We have not had any get-togethers with our dancers but
we do stay in touch by phone, text and email.
We will be going to Florida sometime in December as we have a new
grandbaby coming in January.
Have a wonderful holiday season this year and pray we will all be back
together again in the New Year.

Cayuga Cut-Ups
The Cayuga Cut-Ups are dancing Sundays, 2–4:30pm, at Weedsport
United Methodist Church, 2477 East Brutus St, Weedsport, NY
13166. However, due to COVID-19, we are only dancing with current
membership. Mostly one set of Mainstream level and then a set of Plus
level, so everyone can dance! We are careful to keep masks on and use
hand sanitizer after each set.
Everything is tentative and we do not have concrete plans for the
future; it seems we are thinking week to week. Normally, we would have
a year’s schedule set before now. Hope all is well with our
Federation friends and hope to get back to regular dancing soon, God
bless.

Federation’s Virtual Fun Square Dance, Friday, December 4, 2020

Grand Squares
A masked greeting to all in the Square Dance community. Some of Grand
Squares’ members got together for an impromptu outdoor visit at
the end of September. Those who were unable to attend in person
relayed that they were well and dealing with the pandemic as best they
could. Since then, I am assuming no news is good news. We are all
looking forward to the day when we can get together to dance with
increased safety. And we are still hoping we can gather to celebrate
Grand Squares’ 60th Anniversary in late spring.

Winter 2020 Club News from Silver Squares
The COVID 19 virus continues to change our lives in so many different
ways. We all know the negative impact on our lives, but there are a
few positives. We get to talk more with each other through our weekly
walks and zoom calls. We get to know about each other’s
families, about children and grandchildren and the people that mean
the most to us. Making this weekly connection has been fun and a
source of normalcy.
Silver Squares and Belles and Beaus continues to offer an option for a
weekly zoom call. We invite any member from any club to join us. If
you are interested, please call or text Anne Granger at 585-317-6442
or email me at sunnyweather7@rochester.rr.com so I can add you to the
zoom call.
We meet every Monday at 6:30. If you need help setting up the zoom
call, please call me (Anne Granger) and I will be happy to help you.
We also continue to have a weekly walk. Sue Eddy schedules and
organizes a walk for each Tuesday at approximately 1:00pm. Call Sue at
585-227-6908 to see where each walk will be!
We continue to work hard at putting things in place for when we can
dance again. Many steps have been put in place for when we can start
but until the Covid-19 cases start to decline, they are on hold.
We wish everyone a Happy and Safe Thanksgiving, a Wonderful Christmas,
and a New Year where we can all dance together. Blessings to all!

Village Squares
It’s December and two things are pretty clear as we head in to
2021: one, Covid is still around; and two, square dancing is
not. Never mind the dilemma of social distancing while squaring thru
or promenading, most schools and churches are not yet allowing outside
activities at their venue.
We’re starting to look wistfully back to the choreomania or
uncontrolled dancing of the middle ages. This dance disorder involved
groups of people dancing erratically, sometimes thousands at a
time. At the time it was attributed to evil spirits or explained by
mass hysteria, but dancing is innately contagious and I sure wish we
could be infected with a bit of dancing right now.
Village Squares have been Zooming together Wednesday evenings to
connect while we’re forced to be apart. We’re going to
miss seeing everyone on New Year’s Eve when we traditionally
welcomed in the New Year with the Hip Boot Boyz at St. Thomas
Episcopal Church.
This year especially, the Village Squares can’t wait to write
off 2020 and welcome 2021.
