Boo Bull Advanced Dancing
We certainly hoped to have different news for this issue of the
Promenader but as you all know we are still not dancing. We have
contacted the fire hall to let them know we want to use the hall as
soon as it is safe to get together again. Hopefully, we can all get
vaccinated and be able to enjoy our dancing again very soon. We miss
everyone and have been able to stay in touch with some of our dancers.
We are currently in Florida enjoying our newest granddaughter and her
sister! There is limited dancing here but we are not participating
yet. May you all stay safe until we can dance together again!

Grand Squares
This is not the article I had hoped to be writing for the 2021 spring
edition of the Promenader. Before Covid-19 took hold of the US and in
fact the world, we had envisioned finishing our square dance season by
celebrating the 60th Anniversary of Grand Squares. We were proud of
the fact that even though our name changed slightly (They were
originally the Lima Grand Squares.) as did our dance location (They
originally danced winters in the basement of the Lima Town Hall and
summers in a barn in East Bloomfield.), we could boast of 60 years of
great square dancing. A number of callers and innumerable dancers over
the years have kept Grand Squares going. Like so many of the memorable
occasions of the past months, a group celebration cannot happen, but
still should not be forgotten.
We aren’t giving up on our celebration, but it won’t be
this Spring as we had hoped. Just as we usually celebrate Christmas in
January, we are still hoping to celebrate our Anniversary before the
end of 2021. And thank you to our caller, our faithful members and our
guests, for keeping the spirit of Grand Squares alive.

Silver Squares
The Covid-19 virus continues to change our lives in so many different
ways. We all know the negative impact on our lives, but there are a
few positives. We get to talk more with each other through our weekly
walks and zoom calls. We get to know more about each other and our
families, about children, and grandchildren and the people who mean
the most to us. Making this weekly connection has been fun and a
source of normalcy.
Silver Squares and Belles and Beaus continue to offer an option for a
weekly zoom call. We invite any member from any club to join us. If
you are interested, please call or text Anne Granger at 585-317-6442
or email me at ssunnyweather7@gmail.com. We meet every Monday at
6:30pm. If you need assistance in setting up the zoom call, please
call me (Anne Granger) and I am happy to help you set it up.
We also continue to have a weekly walk. Sue Eddy schedules and
organizes a walk for each Tuesday at approximately 1:00pm. Call Sue at
585-227-6908 to find out the location!
We continue to work hard at putting things in place for when we can
dance again. Many steps have been arranged, but for now, we are on
hold.
Much work has gone into holding Virtual Square and Round Dances. No,
it is definitely not the same, but you get to laugh, talk, listen to
the music, and see some of your friends online. Yes, you can also try
to dance too!!!
We wish everyone a safe winter, a happy Valentine’s Day, and a
fun St. Patrick’s Day. We all look forward to the time we can
dance together.
Please call Sue Sepkowski (595-227-7122), Don Naulin (585-200-0460),
or Anne Granger (585-317-6442) if you have any questions.

Village Squares
Village Squares are really looking forward to the time when we can
begin dancing together, instead of Zooming together. Sadly, this long,
dark winter has also been a season of loss, and not only the loss of
being able to dance with our friends. We’ve also lost two of our
members, Ed Briggs and Karen Vetter, who coincidentally died the same
day, January 15.
Ed died at 96, after a long and interesting life that included leaving
home in his teens to ride the rails as a hobo, a stint in the Navy,
working at Surplus World until it was shut down by the U.S. government
for selling Castro the planes he used for the Cuban Revolution, and
finally retiring from the US Postal Service. He then began his
‘retirement’ job, delivering teeth for a dental lab to
dentists throughout the county. We nicknamed him our ‘tooth
fairy’, bringing teeth instead of taking them away.
Ed loved square dancing, line dancing and if asked, would occasionally
treat Village Squares to an exhibition of clogging. He always had a
twinkle in his eye and a story about his most recent casino
visit. Last March, just before we had to stop dancing, he drove across
town to a Village Squares dance to socialize. Even though he needed to
use a walker, he spoke optimistically about when he might be dancing
again. Dance on, Ed. You will be missed.
Karen Vetter was an inspiration to us all, but in a different way. She
had been blind since her late twenties and decided she would like to
learn to square dance. With the patient teaching of Will Herzog and
Jerry Carmen, Karen zoomed thru mainstream and Plus and became a
valued member of the Village Squares. When her square broke down, it
always turned out that it was our fault—Karen had been in
the right place.
Even if you haven’t danced with Karen, you may remember her
speaking at Jerry Carmen’s 50th Anniversary party at Washington
Irving school. Hopefully, both Ed and Karen, with her guide dogs Megan
and Shelby nearby (in some heavenly kitchen, no doubt!), are dancing
on a cloud to Jerry Carmen’s calls.
Stay Safe: Get Vaccinated. We hope we can see you soon.
