Boo Bull Advanced Dancing

Gary and I are currently in Florida enjoying the warmer weather and doing some dancing.

At this time, we do not have our schedule firmed up. We plan to continue our Tuesday and Friday dancing for squares and our Wednesday round dancing. We have not heard back from the fire hall or church yet about availability and cost. As soon as we know what our schedules will be, we will send out an email and get the information into the Promenader. We do plan to begin in May so be looking for the information.

In the meantime, stay warm and safe! We miss all of the dancers and look forward to getting back to calling and cueing for you.

Hugs!

Cayuga Cut-Ups

Good news the Cut-Ups are dancing Sunday afternoons at Weedsport United Methodist Church, 2477 East Brutus Street, Weedsport, NY; from 2:00 to 4:30. We dance club from 2:00–3:30; then 3:30–4:30 is class. This is thru February and March; then back to Thursday nights for the rest of the year, 6:30 at Weedsport. (In June we move to Bailiwick's Market & Cafe for the summer). So sorry if this is confusing but winter hours, no one wants to drive at night, me either!

Our church requires signing in, masks and hand sanitizing. We are not wearing masks after we sit between tips, just when dancing or moving around. Since Ron Brown keeps us moving it is really no problem sitting after each tip! March 20 will be Soup Night/wearing of the green; April 28 we are planning to graduate class members, currently 4, but that may change as we took January off dancing, due to increase in Covid numbers. In May we are looking forward to the DOR!

Keep dancing

Cloverleaf Squares

The club is still dancing, and our class is advancing. This past winter, we changed our hours and dance schedule to accommodate the winter weather conditions and early sunsets. We also cut back on our round dance periods. We are no longer having the 1/2 hour round session and only do one round dance between square dance tips even during the class period. We folded easy level dancing in with our class. The class is far enough along that all dancers can enjoy dancing while giving some help to the students. Easy Level is from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm, and then we have an hour of Plus until 8:00. We hope you will all come and join us! Once winter is past, we will revise our hours to bring on Spring.

We have been busy with themes for our dances. We had a cheese lover’s night, pie night, mixer night, and a Valentine’s Day dance these past few months. We put up decorations, people brought special treats for each dance, and some dressed to match the theme.

We will be having another round dance teach this summer. We will teach the two-step from 5:00 to 6:30 on Sundays beginning in May. Location and price to be determined. We are working on getting it all setup. We will have a signup sheet available at our dances to let us know if you are interested.

Our board has changed. Henry Capron stepped down as president, and Jim Gotta replaced him. Henry was our president for six years, and we recently honored him by conferring our Certificate of Life Membership upon him. Becky Sabin moved from being our recording secretary to that of vice president. New dancer, Bonnie Swanson, has become our new recording secretary. Jerry Barker has stepped down as our vice president. (We were so happy to have him in that position these last couple of years). Eileen Webster replaced Nancy Thompkins as our treasurer. Being treasurer is a big responsibility, and Nancy maintained that position with great stamina, resolve, and dedication. She was a heavy contributor to the success of our 50th-anniversary dance.

Our Tuesday evening Mainstream/Plus Refresher sessions ended December 21, 2021. Our class caller (Ron Brown) skillfully and successfully brought our recent class members to new heights. Class graduate certificates were handed out at these sessions as Mainstream lessons were abruptly brought to a halt due to Covid. All attendees were dancing at plus level by December. Our club members were also put through their paces at these sessions following a 14-month hiatus with no dancing. There were many smiles and much laughter from all involved. Thank you, Ron!!!

Copy Cats celebrated its 50th anniversary with a catered dinner followed by much merriment and dancing to joint callers Mike Callahan and Ron Brown. Eileen Webster cued rounds.

A festive New Year’s Eve dance was attended by four squares on the afternoon of December 31, 2021. The dance was co-sponsored by Copy Cats and the WNY Federation. Debbie and Jeff Blood (Presidents of Federation) and Rick and Donna LaDonna (Presidents of Copy Cats) chaired the event. Jim Gotta had everyone on their feet. It was a great success.

To ward off the possibility of a winter snowstorm, our dance formerly called the “Snowflake Ball” was renamed our Winter Wonderland Dance. It worked! Roads were clear and we had three squares dancing to winter-themed music provided by Ron Brown and Jim Gotta.

In January, the Copy Cats decided to try a new time and dance format. Our dances are now from 7:00–9:00 PM with a 2 X 2 format with no early rounds. We have received positive feedback for these changes.

The Copy Cats decided to cancel their January 8, 2022 dance due to the high transmission rate of Covid. We were disappointed but felt it was necessary. Since then, the Copy Cats Board has decided to hold a make-up dance on June 4 with Mike Callahan calling and Chuck Meyer cueing. Check the Promenader for updates on this summer dance.

On February 5, 2022, Copy Cats held “Our Eyes on Spring” dance with Jim Gotta calling and cueing. Two squares enjoyed the evening.

Our Valentine dance was very successful on February 19, 2022. There were three energetic squares on the floor. Ron Brown called and Eileen Webster cued.

The Copy Cats have only four dances remaining this season. Our Spring Dance will be on March 5 with Jim Gotta calling and cueing. On March 19, we will hold our annual St. Patrick’s Dance. Dave Eno will be calling with Chuck Meyer cueing. Our April Fools / Spring Fling dance will take place on April 2. Lastly, our Save the Last Dance dance will be held on April 23. Mike Callahan will call and Eileen Webster will cue our last two dances. Check the Copy Cats website www.copycatsdancing.org or the Promenader schedule for any updates.

Hope to see you on the dance floor!!! We dance at the First Baptist Church, 1862 Penfield Road, Penfield, NY. The Church enforces CDC guidelines. All dancers must be fully vaccinated. Please bring proof of vaccination.

Grand Squares

Hopefully we have seen the worst of the blustery winter weather and the persistent Covid virus. We surely are looking forward to Spring!! Grand Squares has planned a dance for Thursday, March 3 with Jim Gotta and will welcome Mike back with our April dances on April 7 and 28. We are looking to celebrate our 60th Anniversary (really now 60 + 1) sometime in May at our regular dance location—Roth Junior High in Henrietta. Plans are not yet finalized, so we ask you to consult the Promenader site and look for our Anniversary flyer in the weeks to come.

And may everyone keep safe and well and continue to dance whenever and wherever you can.

Shirts 'N' Skirts

Sadly the Shirts and Skirts have little to report. We were just starting to think we could get back to dancing in person when the most recent Covid virus hit and set us back again. We are looking forward to safer days when we can be together and square dance again.

We would like to send our condolences to the Keith Harter family for the loss of Keith, a caller for the Pairs and Squares Square Dance Club who was a substitute caller for our club. We will miss him very much.

Silver Squares

If you are looking for something to do on a Monday afternoon, come over and dance at Silver Squares! We dance almost every Monday from 1:00 to 3:00 and dance Mainstream, Plus, and Rounds. We are located in the Greece United Methodist Church at 1924 Maiden Lane in Rochester, NY 14626. The cost is $5.00 per person. We welcome anyone who would like to join us. There is no better place to be on a Monday afternoon for dancing, laughter, and friendship.

We follow all COVID precautions. Presently, due to the surge in COVID, we require all people to wear a surgical mask while dancing and visiting. We sanitize after tips and allow no food at the dances. Hopefully, in time, these restrictions can be relaxed. Please call Don or Anne for updated COVID procedures (585-317-6442).

Our theme parties continue to be extremely successful. Our annual Thanksgiving Dance, the Square Dance Exhibition at the Villages, our Christmas Party Dinner Dance , and the January Hawaiian Dance were well attended and everyone had a good time. Enjoy looking at some of the pictures of these events!

March 14th is our St Patrick’s Day Dance. It is the day for the “wearing of the green.” Come and enjoy the time with friends.

April 11 is our Kite Dance and Silent Auction. Bring in your favorite kite and we will decorate the dance hall. It will remind us the spring is here! Also on this day we hold our Silent Auction. Bring in treasures from your house, for example, books, household items, desserts, cookies, etc. that you would like to donate for the benefit of the club. Let’s see what we can buy! We also have a fun time dancing!!

On May 9 we celebrate Lilac Day. Dress in lilac colors and enjoy a fun afternoon.

Our annual picnic is June 27. We usually have a picnic at noon and dance at 1:00. Time will tell what we will do about the picnic. Keep posted for updates.

Village Squares

The COVID Omicron variant seems to have peaked, but our local community risk rating is still far above our comfort threshold, and our members who want to dance have other opportunities. So, the Village Squares will remain on our COVID pause at least until the weather warms up.

A few of us are getting together at 7:00 every Wednesday evening on Zoom for an hour of chat. It’s nice to keep in touch, and to follow those from our southern contingent—including Tom and Joan in Tennessee, and Phil and Mary in Virginia–who take time from their warm-weather activities to check in with their ‘cool’ northern friends.

I am very sad to see Sally Lee’s obituary in this Promenader issue. You might remember Sally and Jim, from dancing at the Silver Squares. More recently, they were part of the very caring group of Silver Squares who welcomed me into their weekly Zoom gatherings in 2021. Their warmth as a group, and especially Sally’s effervescent personality helped me through a difficult year. RIP.
