Cloverleaf Squares
“Rumba and Cha-Cha” sound foreign, but no longer to many
of our square dancers. Alice Bubel and Mark Thone led a group of new
dancers this past summer to enjoy the round dance rhythms of rumba and
cha-cha. We had dancers from Silver Stars, Waterwheels, Copy Cats,
Dalton Gang, and our club. Now they can increase their evening
enjoyment by participating in more round dancing in area clubs.
We are looking forward to our yearly open house. We distributed flyers
and announced the event in community papers. We have also talked to
our friends and handed out business cards to acquaintances. Last year
we had a blast; this year will be even more “blastier.”
Our perennial event, the Ice Cream Social, will be held at the First
Baptist Church of Chili. Last year’s social was a little on the
sloppy side since we no longer had access to the freezer to keep the
treats in their best condition. All solved in Chili. Come to our Ice
Cream Social and enjoy ice cream as it should be enjoyed.
Upcoming theme nights include “Halloween,” “Veterans
Day / Honor Flight,” and “Thanksgiving Dinner.” Be
sure to check our website from time to time to stay current.

would be more comfortable. Food is allowed at all dances along with
the prepackaged snacks.

is interested in dancing to call or come visit us. Call Don or Anne
for any information (Anne at 585-317-6442 or Don at 585-200-0464).
Our theme parties continue to be extremely successful. We continue to
have 4 squares weekly and sometimes even 5 squares. Our Flag Day Dance
was a celebration of our Flag and all it means to us. Our members
dressed in patriotic outfits and colors and Mike had a great selection
of patriotic music. The end of year Let’s Picnic Dance gathered
five squares of dancers!! We enjoyed hot dogs and wonderful dishes and
desserts made by our Silver Squares cooks and bakers. Look under
Photos and Features for pictures of these dances.
Starting off the summer we had our Ice Cream Social. We had a variety
of wonderful ice cream treats and a whole room of dancers. It is just
wonderful to see that many of our dancers have returned to dancing.
Coming up we have many event dances. Out Root Beer Float Dance, Fall
Festival (free dance with free pizza and soda), 50’s Dance, Soup
and Salad Dance, Halloween Dance, Thanksgiving Feast, and Christmas
Dinner Dance to name a few! For the Soup and Salad and Thanksgiving
Feast eating starts at Noon and at our Christmas Dinner Dance, the
dinner starts at 3:00pm. Yes, we do dance in between eating!
Our committee has worked hard to put together another calendar full of
fun, laughter, and lots of dancing!! Remember these are only some
highlights of our summer and fall activities. Look at our calendar for
the full dance schedule. The calendar is on the Promenader, and also
available at Silver Squares and other clubs.
Come join us sometime. Dance in a square and make a circle of friends!

Village Squares
The Village Squares will kick off the fall 2023 season with a
“twice-a-month” schedule of Wednesday afternoon dances at
the air-conditioned Pittsford Community Center (Room 218). Note that
these are the first and third Wednesdays of each month. Many thanks
to Gerry Schwartz and Gil Porter for spearheading our dance planning!
We had a lot of fun dancing monthly through the spring and summer,
including a dance/picnic in July at King’s Bend Park in
Pittsford. The weather was wonderful—clear and sunny, without
oppressive heat or smoke.
We are a Plus-level club, with walk-throughs on figures that need
work.
COVID protocols are relaxed, but if you have a cold or flu-like
symptoms, please stay home—a good practice under any
circumstances :-)
At the July picnic, the club presented a lovely and delicious cake to
Sandy Barron and me, congratulating us on our marriage. Square dancing
has brought so very many good friends into my life. It’s
impossible to adequately thank you all for the friendship and support
that you have given me over the past 30+ years. I hope to stay in
touch as I move north to be with Sandy in Canada. For now, we are
still shuttling between countries.
