Our Tuesday night workshop returned on May 14. We dance 7:00–9:00 and review all basic and mainstream calls as needed and teach plus movements. This is a perfect night for our new graduates to continue dancing throughout the summer. It is also a great time for anyone who wants to brush up on their dancing. We are willing to review any call that you want, just ask! We have a lot of fun reviewing calls and dancing. Again, we welcome anyone who wants to review and brush up on their dancing and have a fun time doing it!!

We are now teaching Advance dancing on Wednesday nights 6:30–8:30. If you are not sure if you are ready to dance this level, just come and give it a try, you might be surprised! Please feel free to come and angel for the teach, or to brush up on your dancing. Our new dancers to this level appreciate your help and encouragement!

We were delighted to have six dancers finish our Mainstream class and join the club. Many took the opportunity to dance at other locations, strengthening their skills and enjoyment of square dancing. View our Facebook page for pictures of their graduation.

Another round dance class has begun at the Henrietta Fire Hall. The waltz rhythm is a very popular dance. It has many of the figures found in the foxtrot rhythm, which is found at the phase III level. Mark Thone started us off, and Alice Bubel will continue through the rest of the summer.

We have guest caller and cuer, Betsy and Roy Gotta, coming to us on August 4, from New Jersey. No one should miss dances where they are calling and cueing. Both are very experienced and enjoyable. When we return to Chili next fall on September 8, we will have our Ice Cream Social (leave room for dancing).

But our most important event will be our Open House on September 15 in Chili. Bring your friends, relatives, neighbors, co-workers, or the guy down the block. Show them a good time, and watch their faces beam.

We will not be dancing on Father’s Day, June 16, or Labor Day, September 1.

Copy Cats

Through the winter, our Copy Kittens continued to lap up all the new calls that our teacher and caller Ron Brown offered. On April 16 our twelve Copy Kittens became the graduating class of 2024. During the graduation ceremony, special ‘Thanks’ were extended to the 15 angels who danced with the Kittens over 10 or more weeks. Eleven of the Kittens have already joined the club for the 2024–25 year.

Through the winter, our Copy Cat members were to be found hosting dances and leaving home turf to dance with other clubs. Copy Cats stole the Cloverleaf banner as well as earned back their banners from both Batavia Silver Stars and Silver Squares.

As spring settles in, our recent graduates and members alike are looking forward to dancing at DOR on May 4; then gathering on May 18 for our club’s Trail’s End Picnic and Dance with Jim Gotta calling. At this event we will be thanking outgoing board members Debbie and Paul VanGraafeiland as well as welcoming new board members Pete Mills and Phyllis and Charlie Smeltzer. Our Presidents Bonnie Allen and Dick Wesner will be announcing special ‘Thanks’ and awards as well.

The club is very grateful to our teacher and caller Ron Brown for donating his calling skills at the Copy Cats Fundraiser Dance (100% Singing Calls) on June 1 from 2:00–4:00 at the First Baptist Church of Penfield. A donation of $7.00 per person is requested. This benefit dance is to offset some of the costs to the club for the Kitten Class of 2023–2024.

Copy Cats are looking for a new den for our Copy Kitten’s class next year. So stay tuned to see where our Copy Kittens will be leaning to dance, having fun and strutting their stuff.

Copy Cats takes a break hosting dances over the summer but will gather for a club picnic and dance on August 13 to begin looking forward to a new season of hosting dances! First dance is the Rusty Hinge Dance, September 7 at 7:00 at the First Baptist Church of Penfield.

Please note a new format for Copy Cat dances: there will be a tip of Mainstream, 1 round dance, a tip of Plus, 1 round dance then repeated with a tip of Mainstream, 1 round dance. We hope this format encourages everyone to attend our dances: new graduates, rusty, and not so rusty experienced dancers as well as round dancers!

Silver Squares

If you are looking for something to do on a Monday afternoon, come over and dance at Silver Squares! We dance almost every Monday (Spring, Summer, Winter and Fall) from 1:00–3:00; and dance Mainstream, Plus, and Rounds. We are located in the Greece United Methodist Church at 1924 Maiden Lane in Rochester, NY 14626. The cost is $5.00 per person. We welcome anyone who would like to join us. There is no better place to be on a Monday afternoon for dancing, fun, laughter, and friendship.

Our theme parties continue to be extremely successful. We continue to have four squares weekly and sometimes even five squares. Looking back at our dances, we had a lot of fun. Valentine’s Day is always a very special dance at Silver Squares. Groups of friends gathered under out huge heart and had their pictures taken. Denny Frey came to our rescue when we were in need of a caller on short notice. He came with his vinyl records and vintage songs, and he was a hit!! Joann Baxter was dressed in her patriotic best for President’s day and on St. Patrick’s Day we combined five squares of dancers, a pie party and Copy Cats came to steal their banner back!

Banner stealing is getting to be a “thing” between Copy Cats and Silver Squares. Silver Squares has stolen the Copy Cats banner three times and they have taken it back twice! The Copy Cats banner is now residing at Silver Squares until its return to Copy Cats. We are having lots of fun!!

We look forward to the rest of our dance schedule for Spring and Summer:

June 10: Flag Day Dance

June 24: Annual Picnic at NOON, Dance at 1:00PM

July 1: Chocolate Day Dance

July 15: Ice Cream Social

July 29: Pie Party Dance

August 5: Apron Day Dance

August 19: Root Beer Floats

September 16: Fall Festival—FREE Fun, FREE Dance, and FREE Pizza

Our committee has worked hard to put together a calendar full of fun, laughter, and lots of dancing! Make sure you check out the Promenader for any upcoming event details or any changes. Please look under Ads and Flyers and you will find the 2024–2025 calendar with individual flyers for each special dance. We have two theme parties a month along with our regular fun dances, so there is a lot of opportunity to dance. Just remember that we dance weekly so dust off your dancing shoes and come over to Silver Squares. Come join us anytime! Dance in a Square and Make a Circle of Friends

Southern Tier Wheelers

We dance once a month May thru October at the CampBell Campground, 8700 State Route 415, Campbell, NY. Most dancers camp for the weekend, but walk-ins are welcome at our dances. We dance at the Mainstream/Plus level with rounds in between each tip. However, our callers are very good at calling to the floor.

Our posted Schedule Flyer gives details. Note that we now have our dances in the afternoon to better accommodate dancers who are willing to travel. Please call 607-857-1553 (Pat) or 607-739-3299 (Bill) to verify that we are dancing on that date.

See our posted dance flyers (in season) for dance details, and see the CampBell website (https://campbellcampground.com) for campground information and local area attractions.

Don’t have a camper???? Not a problem. Give Ed a call at CampBell Campground (607-527-3301). They have campers and cabins available to rent. Be sure to mention that you are coming to join us and they will give you a special rate. If you just want to come for an evening dance, consider staying for a while after dancing and join us at the campfire. There is always lots of laughter shared while keeping warm. There are also several nice hotels in the area if that is the style of “camping” that you prefer.

We now welcome all dancers to join our club—campers or not! So, please consider becoming a member and save on the cost of the weekend.
