Batavia Silver Stars

The year 2024 was a banner year for Batavia Silver Stars. We graduated a class of five in April, 2024 and started a new class of nine in September of 2024. Two of our members were awarded the Circle of Service Award for their significant contribution to the Square and Round Dance Community. Congratulations Lucy Pietrzykowski and Joann Baxter. We were also able to start a round dance class May through November, 30 minutes before our regular weekly dance. Looking to 2025 we will be holding our Dyngus Day Dance on April 21, 2025 (Everyone is Polish on Dyngus Day!) and our very popular free Name Tag Dance in August. We will keep you posted on the details. See you on the floor!

We have 21 members in our class. With our angels, we have six to seven squares dancing. It is amazing how our members have joined the class to help Mike Callahan teach beginning western square dancing. (Our snack "Buffet" has also increased). Our Class/Club Thanksgiving Dinner Dance was well attended, with the finest pot-luck course in Rochester. There was plenty of dancing after dinner to clear out any calories that had been consumed. Jim Gotta, Chuck Meyer, Lisa Treichler will be on hand to cue our round dances. Our latest classes of Waltz and Rumba/Cha will bring greater enjoyment to the evenings. Our theme dances are sure to put more fun in our step. Bring in your favorite cheeses on Cheese Lover’s night, January 19. Dance with your valentine on February 2. There will be no dancing at the end of December 22 and 29, however. Because the Super Bowl will be played on Sunday, February 09, there will be no dancing during our regular evening times. Instead, our class will be in the afternoon from 3:00 to 5:00 pm. Many of us will be supporting our favorite team later in the evening.

Join us for our Mardi Gras dance on March 2nd, the Peanut Butter Lover’s Night on March 9th, and our anniversary dance (55 years) on March 16th.

Our Bi Laws and Constitution (from 1980’s) was updated to current times and approved this fall.

We had a special Christmas dance with Turkey dinner and all the fixings. One of our class members, Audrey (age 15) is battling cancer and is currently at Boston Children’s hospital. The club raised $355.00 and sent it to family with get well wishes. We were surprised and pleased that the entire family of 6 came to our Christmas event. Recent texts say positive developments after 4 rounds of chemo her tumor has shrunk with upcoming surgery is planned in January in Boston.

2025 calendar was recently provided to which includes a St. Patrick’s Day and Cinco De Mayo dances since both holidays fall on a Monday.

It’s nice that dancers from other clubs come to Liverpool so sometimes we have a 2nd square. If you want to see something unusual, come to Liverpool.

Silver Squares

Monday afternoon is a lot of fun at Silver Squares Dance Club. Six squares of dancers came to our Christmas Dance Party followed by a catered dinner from Forest Hills. The dessert table was covered by the most amazing homemade desserts from our wonderful bakers. We ushered the New Year in with a Pizza and PJ dance. Our members outdid themselves with their selection of pajamas. Jim Gotta is calling for us until March when Mike Callahan returns. Thank you, Jim!

Looking forward we have a lot going on and there will be much fun for everyone. Every other week we have theme dances that will put a smile on your face. One of the most fun dances is our Western Dance on April 14th where you get to wear your boots, hats and all western attire! The magnificent Pie Dance is April 28th.
