The past few months have been exciting with several of our clubs successfully returning to the dance floor. The Federation-sponsored free summer dances have been very well attended, with at least six squares dancing at each dance. The dances were very well supported by our club members near and far.
Reminiscing back to my younger days; … it was probably a
late 1960’s or early 1970’s TV commercial where there was
this young girl carrying a big dish of food to the Thanksgiving
dinner table and with this huge grin she proudly indicated “and
I helped!” Especially right now as our clubs are returning to
dancing, we need your help. Any way you can offer to help will be
appreciated … whether it is helping with making calls on
a club phone tree, printing dance flyers, cutting coupons for the
troops, submitting articles to the Promenader, helping proofread the
Promenader, arriving early or staying late to help set up or clean up
after dances, we need you. Any help is very much appreciated.
Currently, many clubs and even the Federation are operating without
all their leadership positions filled. The leadership is getting
burned out by trying to do it all themselves. There is so much behind
the scenes planning that goes into everything we do, whether it is a
dance, ice cream social, pie night, picnic, DORish or DOR Dances,
etc. Because we want to continue to offer the fantastic dancing
programs as we have done in prior years, we need more members to
offer their assistance. This is at both the Federation and club
level. If you are available and want to help out, please let your
club leadership or Federation leadership know. As the tasks are being
more spread out to others, it is easier on everyone. Jeff and I have
learned one of the best benefits of volunteering on various tasks or
committees for the Federation or our clubs, you are given the
opportunity to work with your square & round dance family more
closely and appreciate how truly wonderful they are.
Currently, most clubs are planning to offer dance programs in
September. Several clubs are holding off till January 2022 to offer
square dance classes. Please check the Promenader for the current
dance schedules.
Our first Federation Meeting is Weds. Sept 8th and will be a Zoom
session. A DOR meeting is scheduled at 6:30pm and Federation Meeting
Scheduled for 8:00pm. (DOR 2022 is already booked for Sat May 14th,
at the Perinton Community/Recreation Center.)
Also please save the date for our Federation, Club Presidents and
Callers Meeting on Tuesday, October 19 and it will also be a Zoom
session. An email will be distributed with all the details.
We are looking forward to seeing you on the dance floor.
Take Care,
Debbie & Jeff Blood
